Nine weeks and we’re still at it and there’s no sign of slowing down fam. Since I did a roots/laid back dancehall playlist last week, I thought maybe we take it to Africa for an all out Afropop/Afro-fusion playlist. I think this one will inevitably have a following playlist, a part 2 so to speak, as I seem to have missed out a few bangers simply because I can only pick 10 tracks at a time. Another thing that will jump out to ardent observers of the Afropop scene is that all the artists on this particular list are either Nigerian or Zimbabwean, so definitely another one will be coming soon. Here is the latest installment of TEN OF THE BEST.

Check out the spotify playlist at the bottom of this post:

This week’s playlist, in no particular order:

Particular – Major Lazer X DJ Maphorisa X Nasty C X Ice Prince X Patoranking X Jidenna

This is one of those infectious songs that I can’t help having on repeat. The production value alone is on a level, which is to be expected given that production powerhouse Major Lazer has a hand in this tune. That said, South African producer DJ Maphorisa is also on production and he’s definitely one not to be slept on. Add to this the top quality artists spread out over this track and it’s a definite gem

Mad Over You – RunTown

I have managed to sleep on RunTown for the longest time. I have been referred to his tune enough times over the years but I never really gave his music a chance, what folly. This track is on point, and again the replay value is not to be taken lightly. Look out for a few burners from this dude in future playlists.

Pana – Tekno

This is a song that always seems to get a dancefloor going, I have noticed this each time I’m at a party and it comes on. Needless to say, the ladies go crazy. I have left this one out of a few playlists already where it’s just narrowly missed out, I guess there’s a method to the madness.

Sweet Love – Wizkid

One of my favourite African artists at the moment, Wizkid is a hitmaking machine. In this tune he doesn’t miss a beat, the delivery is what we have come to expect from the Nigerian singjay. Absolutely love the production as well, with its awesome jazzy tones, great work this.

Personally (remix) – Vybz Kartel X Burna Boy X Kalado

Another artist I have been following closely lately, Burna Boy has this style which is distinctly him. He has a way of attacking a beat which makes him stand out apart from his peers. In this remix, he recruits two great Jamaican artists in Vybz Kartel and Kalado, boy do they deliver.

Ndopenga – Bryan K X Mr. Kamera X Dobba Don

Let’s take it to my beloved home country of Zimbabwe. Man of the moment Bryan K returns with this solid offering, with a talented supporting cast of Dobba Don and Mr Kamera. I will hazard a guess that Mr Kamera is on production, and as I have come to expect from this guy the beat is crazy without a doubt.

Ndipe Moyo – Tytan

Tytan has been making major waves in Zim at the moment, and I can guarantee that he is on a trajectory which will see him reaching dizzying heights in the near future. He happens to be the complete package, producer x song writer, so what more would you want from  the brother.

Pakura – Adrian Tate

It would be unfair to include Tytan without having Adrian Tate on the list. The two are not only label mates, but they are also both multi-talented artists, i.e. they handle all their own production. This tune is really catchy, I have had it on repeat for a considerable amount of time since the release of his EP. Great song indeed.

If – Davido

In terms of vibes, this songs is laced with crazy energy. Another song I have seen working a crowd full of ladies, the energy is impossible to describe. The replay value is very high, oh and give it a few listens and you will undoubtedly be singing along.

Leg Over – Mr Eazi

Mr Eazi delivers on this one. The production is nice, and the vocal delivery is solid. What more can I say, this is an all round great tune.

Thank you for travelling with me to Africa. Until the next time…
